AUDITIONS

except as required by the play.

In-Person Auditions

To be held Thursday May 30-Sunday June 2 5, with at select times below. All auditions are comprised of two parts: an individual singing and monologue audition, and a dance call. Selected  will be invited to callbacks on Saturday June 8, as needed.  

 

Specific dates are:

Thursday, May. 30: 6:00-10:00 pm 

Friday, May 31: 6:00-10:00 pm

Saturday, June 1:  10:00 am-3:00 pm

Sunday, June 2: 10:00 am- 1:00 pm Dance Call 

Saturday June 8: 11-1 (Group 1 Dance & Group 2 Music Callbacks). 2-4  (Group 2 Dance & Group 1 Music Callbacks) 

 

Individual auditions slots are a ten minutes each and must be booked in advance. Please arrive at least 15 minutes in advance.

Prior to the audition, please attach your cv and resume, email current headshot (black/white is fine) and acting resume All questions and inquiries can be emailed to productions@botg.ca

 

Please dress comfortably and familiarize yourself with the play and its characters in advance.

 

For the audition:

Please prepare two contrasting 2-5 minute songs, one Sondheim and one from contemporary repertoire- Those auditioning as ensemble should prepare one, contemporary song. Please bring a copy of your sheet music. 

  • You may also be asked to do a cold read of the text.

  • For the callbacks, selected actors will be provided with a scene and role to memorize and play in a group setting. 

  • Dancers, please bring appropriate clothing and footwear to both the dance call and callback. 

 

Those asked for a callback will be notified a minimum of 24 hours prior to your callback, and no later than Monday June 3rd.

CHARACTERS

ROBERT, the protagonist. A keen observer who appears happy but holds pain in his heart. The only one of his friends still single. Terrified of marriage & fears a lifelong loneliness. Male, 30-35 | Vocal range top: G5/bottom: G3

SARAH, Harry's hyper critical wife. An avid learner of karate & tends to overeat. Open, accepting, full of love. Female, 30-40 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3

​

HARRY, Sarah's husband. A recovering alcoholic continually falling off the wagon. Believes the advantages of marriage outweigh the disadvantages. Male, 35-45 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3

SUSAN, a delicate southern belle. Peter's wife & ex-wife. Motherly in her affections towards Robert. Female, 30-40 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3

PETER, Susan's husband. The perfect husband & ex-husband. Very liberal in his view of relationships. Male, 30-40 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: B3

JENNY, quietly manipulative, simultaneously square & wise. Loves David, & will indulge him from time to time. Female, 30-40 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3

DAVID, Jenny's husband. He’s relaxed & always in control. Believes a man should be married & the sacrifice of freedom is worth what you get in return. Male, 30-40 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: B3

AMY, a frantic neurotic engaged to Paul but terrified of marriage. After a mental breakdown, she finally realizes that Paul is, in fact, her soulmate. Female, 25-35 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: G3

PAUL, Amy's fiancé. Mildly clingy, but patient to her neurotic nature. He is fully committed to the idea of marriage & encourages Robert to do the same. Male, 30-40 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: B3

JOANNE, acerbic, demanding, & blunt. Too old to be part of the young crowd, but not old enough to be part of the older crowd. Puts on a brassy front that melts when she is alone with her husband. Female, 40-50 | Vocal range top: B5/bottom: G3

LARRY, Joanne's husband. Stoic & centered, but moments of goofiness. Indulges his wife but knows when to put his foot down. Male, 45-55 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: B3

MARTA, a girlfriend of Robert's. Intensely modern, seeking adventure & excitement in the City. Female, 20-30 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3

KATHY, an old girlfriend of Robert's, now a good friend. She plans to leave the City for a life of domesticity. Sweet & loving. Female, 25-35 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3

APRIL, a girlfriend of Robert's. A flight attendant who came to New York to live in Radio City. Ditzy & adorable. Female, 25-35 | Vocal range top: A5/bottom: A3
